Okiroi Villas
Tinos
The building is located in a quiet neighborhood in the country of Tinos. In the old days, the buildings functioned as Hani, which were traditionally places of reception and hospitality for passers-by and their animals. During the reconstruction, the design was based on the harmonious combination of natural elements—water and earth—and their alternating placement.
Our story
Our name. Okiroi was an Oceanic nymph of mythology, daughter of the ocean. The god Apollo was fascinated by her unique beauty and fell in love with her. Okiroi rejected him romantically. He, being unable to accept the rejection, did not stop claiming it. One day, Okiroi wanted to escape and so she dived into her element, the sea, and began to swim away from him.
The god Apollo spotted her and turned her into a rock, wanting to keep his love captive forever.
The design of our building is based on the transitions between water and land and is thus deeply connected to the above story where the Oceania nymph became a rock.
